The Association of Grantmakers in Alberta provides opportunities for grant makers to build relationships, increase understanding of the role each one plays, enhance knowledge of community needs, share practical learning to increase the effectiveness of granting, and strengthen the impact of grants for the betterment of the communities we all serve.

Membership Criteria and Fees

Eligibility for Voting Membership: 

Voting membership in the Association is open to the following organizations, if they make grants or gifts to charities or nonprofit organizations in Alberta:

  • Registered public or private foundations whose grants or gifts to Albert charities or nonprofit organizations, or its own charitable activities in Alberta, are at least $50,000. Excluded are organizations that exist to fund one specific charity or non-profit.
  • All Alberta-based United Ways.
  • Entities that are responsible for distributing funding under Alberta’s Family and Community Support Services Program.
  • Municipalities in Alberta and municipally established funding bodies, the primary purpose of which is to make grants or gifts to charities and nonprofit organizations.
  • Departments or agencies of the Government of Alberta or the Government of Canada that distribute grants in Alberta.

The Voting Membership fee:  $500/year and is based on calendar year.

Eligibility for Associate Membership

Associate Membership in the Association is available to other organizations with a primary purpose of providing grants or gifts to charities and other nonprofit organizations, are active in Alberta, but otherwise do not qualify for Voting Membership.  Associate Members are entitled to attend all meetings of the Association, but do not have a vote.  Examples of Associate Members include:

Other industry funding bodies that meet the $50,000 minimum threshold.

Newly formed private or public foundations (under 2 years old) that do not meet the $50,000 minimum threshold but have an interest in granting in Alberta.

Private and public foundations that are interested in expanding granting to Alberta but do not meet the $50,000 minimum threshold.

International Funders who grant in Alberta and meet the $50,000 minimum threshold.

The Associate Membership fee:  $500/year and is based on calendar year.
